Mixed media on canvas applied to wooden panels, showing a sequence. On the lower right the artist's initials GB and the numbering of the panels; on the verso of each panel is the signature in full, with the date and the following sequential titles: 'By Bosch', 'Declination of an Owl', 'Transcription' and 'Disappearance for Coquetry'. Gabriella Benedini has defined her as an artist as 'a nomad in search of the profound meaning of things'. Although attracted and interested first by abstract-informal painting, then by Existential Realism and then by the New Figuration, Gabriella Benedini proceeds on a strictly personal quest that cannot be assimilated into any specific current. The entire 1970s were mainly marked by pictorial works that reflected literary cues filtered through her need for growth and confrontation. Then, through her passion for Alchemy, Benedini began to transform anything that came her way into works of art; shells, pages of old books, bottles, everything is combined into a harmonious whole that recalls spaces. Her works therefore become mainly three-dimensional, either to hang on the wall, or they are sculptures, even large ones. The four panels are presented here in a single frame.

Tableau doré

Mixed technique on plywood (painting and silver paper sheets). On the back, authentic with stamp and signature of the artist's sister. The work belongs to the series of Tableaux dorés, works created by the Milanese artist Remo Bianco starting from the 1950s. Born and educated in Milan, Remo Bianco was a pupil of De Pisis, in whose studio he frequented the great Italian artists of the twentieth century (Carrà, Sironi, Savinio, Soffici, Soldati, Marini, Cantatore). After the interlude of the war (enlisted, sank with his ship and was taken prisoner in Tunis), he resumed his artistic activity in Milan, participating in the Nuclear Movement and Spatialism, coming to completely detach himself from figurative painting to create works made of brushstrokes mashed potato. At the beginning of the fifties he began to create works, pictorial and sculptural, with different materials and to experiment with different themes and techniques; to this production belong the Tableaux dorés, composed of silvered or gilded aluminum foils on painted bases. Plato and Aristotle

Mixed media on canvas. Signature, title, date and dedication on the reverse. Paolo Baratella, a recently deceased artist from Ferrara, developed his art by composing vast pictorial cycles inspired by contemporary subjects; we therefore have series of works by him gathered under significant titles. From the mid-1980s and into the 2000s, his scenographic apparatuses became more enriched with cultural, pictorial and literal iconographic references. In particular, Baratella pays greater attention to the iconography of art, philosophy and history. In this work the artist presents the portraits of the two great Greek philosophers (taken from their traditional classical depictions) and shades them in a frame of pink-blue colours. The two individual canvases are placed side by side inside a worked wooden frame, on whose two horizontal crosspieces the words "Timaeus" a work written by Plato, and "Ethics", a recurring theme of Aristotelian philosophy, are engraved.

Untitled, 1961

Mixed media on paper and cardboard. Signed and dated '61 top right. The composition - because such are the works of the artist originally from Bari but lived in Paris - presents some objects from the world of toys (the two plastic bottles) assembled together with nails, painted tape, waxed paper, trimmings, on a based on paper and cardboard, to create an imaginative landscape, a sort of scenography for a childish world. Family Album 2001

Oil and acrylic on canvas. Signature, date and title on the back. Concetto Pozzati was an eclectic artist: after his debut in the Informal climate, the artist reworked the influences of international Pop Art in a personal key, always remaining linked to a simplified, ironic figuration, with surrealist atmospheres. The work presented belongs to the 2001 series of Family Albums, in which the artist portrays the faces of his family members: here the same artist appears, on the left, flanked by the childish faces of his two children, and in addition the head of a cockerel, in accordance with Pozzati's habit of adding elements of everyday life into his works.

Ezio Pastorio, originally from Cremona but transplanted to Valseriana after his studies, is considered "a great Italian master of the 20th century, who knew how to renew the artistic language of the landscape while maintaining a strong link with 19th century painting". His production is post-impressionist in nature, especially in the large landscape production that depicts the Po and Bergamo plains, the Venetian lagoon and some Parisian glimpses, admired during some travels. In his works, Pastorio creates suggestive atmospheres using infinite ranges of colours, which harmonize and sometimes even contrast, but always presented as a transparency which annuls the static nature of the representation and with a delicacy which expresses his devout religiosity towards nature and the created. Less frequent in his production is portraiture, which nevertheless expresses his ability to use color as a delicate transparency, which brings out the effects of light and shadow generated by human expressions even in the faces. Mixed technique on paper, applied on cardboard. Italian school. The name of Londonio is proposed on the back: the delicate piece certainly recalls the subject and manner of the work of Francesco Londonio (1723-1783), the Milanese artist who specialized in the animal and pastoral genre. It can be considered a work inspired by Londonio, by an artist close to his field.

Mixed media (pencil and watercolor) on paper. Signed at the bottom. On one of them there is also the date (1946 and 1947). It is a small collection of sketches on paper, six faces of children and women and four landscapes, still with pencil strokes and incomplete watercolor paints, in the typical ranges of Mantovani, those clear and transparent colors that are considered one of its characteristic features. Lugi Mantovani, Milanese by birth and training, established himself in the artistic panorama and became an active part in the Milanese cultural cenacles of the city, to which he dedicated his production, consisting mainly of landscapes and city views. The paintings, of different sizes, are presented in style frames, with small lacks (one missing the glass).

Nature's Poetry 1962

Mixed media, with metal applications on canvas. On the back there is the name of the artist, with the title and the date. James McClintock is an American artist who joined Post Painterly Abstraction, a movement that developed in America in the 60s and 70s which strongly claimed its descent from American Abstract Expressionism and the work of the action painters of the group by Pollock, cutting off all dependence on Europe starting in the 1940s. McClintock also worked in Europe, in particular in Florence where between 1961 and 1967 he worked in collaboration with the Galleria Numero di Fiamma Vigo, a non-conformist place created by the Argentine gallerist to present and promote innovative works. Valtellina, 2000

Mixed media on canvas. On the reverse there is signature, title, date and dedication to the art critic Rossana Bossaglia. The work belongs to the pictorial phase of the painter Massimo Soldati, which evolved after 1985 and characterized by the search for new expressive techniques and the use of different materials, moving from formal figurative to informal figurative and conceptual abstract. The work is presented in a frame.
